U2E is part of INRAE's network of experimental units, and is the only site in eastern France with semi-continental soil and climate conditions. The climate is characterised by low temperatures in January and February, with periods of frost, and high temperatures from June to September. In terms of rainfall, the monthly average is around 60 mm, with significant monthly and inter-annual variations. In order to control these wide variations, the entire experimental area is drained and covered by an irrigation system that enables a group of small plots to be irrigated with a small amount of water and great precision.

Its human resources are made up of around twenty agents divided into three teams:

  • SYSFERM team : responsible for steering and implementing cropping system trials;
  • APEX team : responsible for carrying out analytical trials;chargée de la réalisation des essais analytiques ;
  • CESYA team : in charge of designing and evaluating agroecological systems on the CA-SYS platform, as well as agronomic monitoring of crops and biological regulation.

The unit's main mission is to design, evaluate and contribute to the adoption of innovative cropping systems that are less dependent on the use of plant protection products. In this way, it responds to the major challenges of our time, linked to food safety and environmental protection, with a particular focus on the need to develop innovative crop systems that are less dependent on the use of plant protection products.

 In this way, it is responding to the major challenges of our time, linked to food safety and environmental protection, with one key question: "How can we maintain high levels of agricultural production with a lower level of inputs?

To this end, U2E is hosting the CA-SYS platform, which is experimenting with 4 cropping systems based on agroecology, used as a means of production in order to do without pesticides while maintaining a satisfactory level of production. Download the CA-SYS brochure
